1440 {50} :: Barcelona, Day 3, Part 1

+

+

Are you tired of Barcelona yet?

+

I wouldn’t blame you if you were.

Not to worry. This was our last day in Barcelona…

+

And it was full.

+

After a quick breakfast of cafe con leche and various breads and fruits, we hopped a metro and travelled across town to meet our bicycle tour guide.

+

Thinking back, it was actually quite an undertaking. Forty of us in our group, one who had NEVER ridden a bike and others who hadn’t been on one in years, and most of whom didn’t understand the street or warning signs. On bicycles. In a pretty busy city with lots of pedestrians. And cars.

That was an adventure in itself.

+

+

We saw some beautiful sights, and even stopped for a picture here and there.

+

We rode and we rode and we rode, until finally...

+

We reached the sea.

I have this thing about the ocean, and I couldn’t wait for this part of our trip.

It was so so cold. I did stick my toes in {I had to}, but that was as deep as I could go.  It was fun to watch the students… You could see on their faces that they wanted to go in, but they didn’t want to be wet and cold. Eventually, a handful decided to jump in – fully submerge.

+

And now they can say they swam in the Mediterranean.

+

+

Barcelona is full of public art. This is The Preix, or The Fish, and it was commissioned to be built for the 1992 Olympics. It’s situated at the base of a tall skyscraper, facing the ocean, and it just glimmers in the sunlight. +

We eventually arrived back to the square where we rented our bicycles.

And it was only noon…
