Still Needed

Fifteen costume changes. Broken air conditioner at an old high school. Lights, music, chaos, costumes, Miss Independence, lost shoes, found shoes, mixed up tights, not enough bobby pins, extreme moodiness, stolen changing space, ten hours of hustle, girlsgirlsgirls, ten months of classes, two days of rehearsals, five sets of shoes, competitions, missed family vacation, brokenness, […]

She was beautiful Patty, such a passionate dancer. And yes, they need us now more than ever, even when they don’t so!! My girls have already been working on a little choreography of their own this morning. They NEVER stop dancing!
So glad our girls have shared this time together.

Jenn - May 31, 2011 - 1:17 pm

Lovely photo of a lovely moment.

diana a.k.a. meme - May 31, 2011 - 2:08 pm

Beautiful picture, beautiful ballerina! I remember those days so well! I miss them~ but I am sure my little gems will grow to have recitals too!

Ashley Sisk - May 31, 2011 - 2:21 pm

Awesome shot – I know it was worth it all.

Cathy - May 31, 2011 - 2:23 pm

3 beautiful words, those are! INEEDYOU

Kelley Harold - May 31, 2011 - 2:37 pm

She was absolutely fabulous, Patty! She obviously has a God-given talent and she has just really blossomed in the past couple years into a total performer as her self-confidence grew. I love to watch her dance! Abby was only in 4 dances and Bella was in 2, but that alone was really hectic. I cannot imagine how difficult it was for those girls, like Lexi, who were in so many, AND so many in BOTH recitals!

My girls haven’t stopped dancing, either. They were even choreographing new stuff after the dress rehearsal. Since they are still so young, I was afraid they’d confuse themselves and forget their actual recital stuff! I guess it’s a good thing that they never want to stop dancing… :-)

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - May 31, 2011 - 2:59 pm

you described it perfectly. sweet picture.

Cedar - May 31, 2011 - 3:59 pm

Gina - May 31, 2011 - 6:09 pm

AMAZINGLY beautiful shot! It’s quite a time at that age- so much going on.

Vivian - May 31, 2011 - 6:15 pm

They are so pure and BEAUTIFUL. Dancing is my life. Thank you for sharing.

Running Mama - May 31, 2011 - 7:07 pm

I wish I could have been there. I LOVE dance and Miss Sophia does as well. She sneaks into the boys room constantly, turns on their stereo and dances (with her eyes closed). Girls are so great. :)

Your daughter is a beauty and I’ll bet she’s a fabulous dancer. Miss ya! I’ve been crazy busy…need to get my blog on again.

Wisconsin Keetha - May 31, 2011 - 7:26 pm

Gorgeous ballerina flowers!

My friend’s daughters are in a recital in a week or so – – – and they are going through ALL the same angst you describe here!

Ms. Heather - May 31, 2011 - 8:51 pm

It was such a blessing to teach your daughter! I have watched her grow up so much this year!

Michelle Kennedy - May 31, 2011 - 10:50 pm

Saturday Morning Coffee & a Guest Post

Good Morning! It seems so long since I’ve written a post like this… You know, a How are ya, friend? kinda post. Life has been so crazy here. We just finished our first week of Summer Break. My oldest is playing on 2 baseball teams; my middle is participating in soccer camp, 2 weeks now, […]

Southern Gal - May 28, 2011 - 5:50 pm

I love, love the photos Edie has shared so far of the graduation party. You did an amazing job with what I’ve seen so far.
Those water drops in the wakeboarding picture look like they can splash out of the screen.

Recognition Night for our homeschool group last night – I can breathe a little easier. Our youngest is trying swim team this year, so I know of the sports running around. You are far busier than I am. My daughter took and passed her nurse licensing exam (yay!). I’m sewing today because now we’re planning a certain little girl’s first birthday party. That’s about it right now.

Southern Gal - May 28, 2011 - 5:52 pm

I love the photos of the graduation party. You did an amazing job. And those water pictures look like I can reach into the computer screen and touch them.

Lots going on here, too. My son is on swim team. We’re planning a first birthday party for a certain little girl. I’m sewing trying to catch everything up. And my daughter passed her nurse licensing exam so she’s officially an RN.

I don’t know how you keep up with all the sports, etc. I used to do it back in the day. Now one keeps me busy enough!

Cate - May 29, 2011 - 3:39 am

Your pics of the party are wonderful – and you can do anything you put your mind to girl, so keep at it with your photography :-)

Cathy - May 29, 2011 - 5:09 pm

What a wonderful post, my dear! I will follow you wherever you guest post…exciting! Your photography skills…just when i think they can’t get any better, they do! My favorite is that last one of the little hanging lanterns (will you find out where they came from for me?!) It’s funny how our lives run parallel…been busy here, too…disconnected from blog life…but you remind me life is to be lived (you wakeboarding mama, you)! And if there’s extra minutes, then we can blog :) many xoxo

Michelle DeRusha - May 29, 2011 - 7:02 pm

Just scrolled through all your posts and photos from the last week, and as always am completely enamoured. Those summer sun shots simply wooed me. I know you have high expectations and are probably a perfectionist when it comes to your photography, but by my eye, you are gifted beyond belief.

P.S. loved your post over at Emily’s place, too.

red or gray - May 30, 2011 - 1:06 am

i so enjoyed your post at emily’s space ..and your series here is amazing … early summer in your photos is so artistic ..

Photo a la {M}ode {13} :: Shutter Speed

This week, we tackle the third part of the Exposure Triangle, shutter speed. In my introduction to this series, I told you this about shutter speed: SHUTTER SPEED. This is the amount of time that your camera‚Äôs shutter stays open. The faster the shutter speed, the more quickly it closes and the darker the image. […]

See! We are always in sync with each other as far as photography stuff goes. This is just what I was wanting to talk to you about today. Take a look at my photo for today and tell me what you think as to how i could have blurred those cars while keeping the theater in focus. Love that last shot! WOW!

Becky @ Farmgirl Paints - May 25, 2011 - 2:22 pm

oooh those are really good. i never liked talking about shutter speed. you nailed it though.

Freckles and Fences - May 24, 2011 - 1:07 pm

These are beautiful. The light is stunning. The images look so peaceful but I can imagine fun, picnics, laughing, parties happening when the sun is all the way up in the sky.

Sam @TheKelleyEight - May 24, 2011 - 1:57 pm

Gorgeous! Visiting from SST.

Jane @ One Photo - May 24, 2011 - 2:14 pm

Beautiful. The lighting in these shots is so golden and soporific, a true sign of impending summer. We are waiting for the calm here – still in the grips of May storm weather, but it will come soon enough.

Tara - May 24, 2011 - 2:42 pm

Gorgeous, the lighting is brilliant. Makes me long for the lake.

Southern Gal - May 24, 2011 - 3:24 pm

The color reflected off the water is amazing. It’s definitely summertime here, too!

Ruth - May 26, 2011 - 11:39 pm

Gorgeous photos. Makes me want to go out and find a lake to swim in, relax by, picnic and watch the sunset.

Lizzi S. - June 2, 2011 - 4:01 am

Love these! They remind me of summer weekends at my grandparent’s lakefront home. We’d stay on their beach until we could just barely see our way back to the house, until the trees were merely silhouettes and the water was still. Wonderful memories!

Photo a la {M}ode :: A Week Off

ISO 800, f/4.5, 1/1000, 70mm Begging your forgiveness, I need to sit out of the academic part of this week’s Photo a la {M}ode.
