A Love Dare and a Birthday

She wasn’t even a year old and her dad had been gone half her life. He was in Bosnia, peace-keeping for the world, living on a post surrounded by land mines, fixing broken and saving lives. I scooped her up, a lethargic fire-ball on her first birthday. But the invitations had been sent, and her […]

1440 {32} :: Dreaming of Spring

With all this rain and cold we’ve been having, I’ve been craving some sunshine and spring. {Or sweet memories of the tropics, at least!} Thought you might be, too. Would you believe I still have a few days’ worth of pictures from Costa Rica to share? It’s true, I do. These were taken at the […]

Tamar Strauss-Benjamin - February 22, 2013 - 12:00 pm

Oh, I hear you! We have more snow on the way this weekend and as much as I love snow and winter, I am ready to not need 35 layers to go outside!

Kim Stevens - February 22, 2013 - 2:52 pm

Our temps are spring like, but sheesh, I really need some sunshine – it’s been rainy and gloomy. And yeah for more Costa Rica pictures! Thanks so much for hosting!

MG Atwood - February 22, 2013 - 6:11 pm

Tracey of Haiku.You.Do - February 22, 2013 - 8:59 pm

Oh my. I can’t wait for spring to arrive and bring along with it some color, warmth, and flowers! So sick of the boring winter.

Kim Cunningham - February 22, 2013 - 9:22 pm

Lovely flora! The first image looks like a flower we had in Thailand. It was called a needle plant. They were often given to teachers because they were “sharp” intellectually! :)

Serendipity is Sweet - February 23, 2013 - 2:39 am

These are gorgeous! I can feel the warmth!!

Suzanne - February 23, 2013 - 3:23 pm

Of Baseball and Men

The school year is over, another season is past, and I’m left with regrets for not being there more, for not being his cheerleader when he was the hero, for not telling him how proud of him I was even when he wasn’t. I wash out his uniform for the last time and I am […]

What amazing memories and beyond amazing pictures!

Southern Gal - February 21, 2013 - 12:59 pm

Your pictures and words remind me of my baseball loving son who experienced the ups and downs of baseball, tournament ball, traveling teams. I miss it so much. Thank you for taking me back.

Southern Gal - February 21, 2013 - 1:01 pm

And I have a picture of Jacob at 18 months old throwing a big plastic ball in the air and hitting it with his big plastic bat. Our boys would have much in common…

Mia - February 21, 2013 - 8:36 pm

Hi Patty
What a good-looking young man! They grow up so quickly and before you know it, they are ready for the big world. I am glad with you for all these men that helped to shape your son’s life! Over via Emily’s!
Much love

Kathy - February 22, 2013 - 1:41 am

Dont forget about another important component to the equation…the baseball MOM :).

Kati Woronka - February 22, 2013 - 9:39 am

Two things come to mind… first, the lessons of endurance, faithfulness, steadfastness that came through a life of sports training. That’s not to be dismissed, is it?! Second, the photographic record of the memories is worth gold.

Robert J. Gerryts - February 22, 2013 - 4:27 pm

Loved the progression of this heart story and the love and wisdom in your words. Champions are made in the off season. Great read.

Holly - February 22, 2013 - 5:00 pm

A Different Kind of Morning

I’ve spent the last several months wandering, feeling a little lost. Feeling a little less than and a little incomplete and maybe even a little sorry for myself. And I’m sure there’s a reason for this. There’s a reason for every season, isn’t there? My friend who teaches the yoga classes I’ve been taking mentioned […]

Stephanie - February 19, 2013 - 12:07 pm

Loved the photos. Love that place! I am a perfectionist and have had a few years here feeling less than that, as well. Concept of wabi-sabi helpful for me.

Amy Avery - February 19, 2013 - 12:39 pm

Oh Patty! Thank you for sharing these very real and powerful thoughts. I admit it has left me in a state of tears as I type this message. You truly are a very amazing person and I am so very blessed to know you. You are an amazing woman who shows such strength and authenticity in allowing yourself to be shown in the raw, the vulnerable. It connects you to others in such a very real way and I am thankful for your sharing. I love the concept of Wabi Sabi. And I love the words of Pat Benatar, WOW!Let’s plan to meet for coffee again soon! Love you friend!

1440 {31} :: Golden Morning and Grace Once Again

Forgiveness is the fragrance the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it. ~Mark Twain * I think we all recognize in Christianity how tightly woven forgiveness is in Grace. {It is Grace.} It’s a little more difficult to wrap ourselves around when we think of forgiveness in human terms.  I mean true forgiveness… Forgiveness given […]
