31 Days {18} :: Circle of Friends

A great friend who is fully present, loving and powerful is a gift to not only you but to the whole world.   ~Joyce Lee

I recently read an article that suggested that we are the average the five people with whom we spend the most time. If they have a positive, progressive outlook on life, we probably do, too. But if they have a narrow and limited outlook on life, we might be stuck in the same negative thinking patterns.

We’ve talked about the devil and the angel sitting on our shoulders, whispering thoughts to us. So I sit hear smiling and wanting to ask, which shoulder do your friends sit on?

Five questions to reflect on:

1. Are your friendships healthy?

2. Do your close friends support your dreams?

3. Do your friends want to talk about positive aspects of life?

4. Are your friends grateful for the abundance of life?

5. Do feel light and happy when you are with your friends?

It’s important to surround yourself with positive people who support you and bring joy to your life.
And it’s equally important that you support the people around you and bring joy to their lives.

Dina@4LettreWords - I couldn’t agree more with that…and have cut off a couple friendships in the past b/c of it.

Gorgeous shot! How I wish I was back at the beach. 🙂

Danielle - I am so loving this series. Friendships have been on my mind as I get closer to 60. I had my daughter when I was 40 so my friends have always been her playmates moms … now that she is almost 18…well…all those friends are so much younger than me…and they just don’t ‘get’ what changes are going on with me right now…so I don’t talk with them much anymore. I was really in a yucky place a few weeks ago and a staff assistant in our dept. happened to ask me what was going on…she is two years older than me…I actually opened up to her and it was so therapeutic to talk with someone who ‘got’ what I am going through. Peer friendships are so important. She really gave me a new perspective that day on what was going on with me…it was inspiring.

Sandra - I was just talking to my husband about this before work this morning an had to remind him..
A negitive person sees the obstacle in every opportunity, and a positive person sees the opportunity in every obstacle.

MG Atwood - This is wonderful. It really hits home. One of my dearest friends was just diagnosed with cancer. She has asked me to take her to chemo. I hope I can be strong enough, keep her mood light enough, and be a good friend to her.It won’t be easy.

Marty - I am such a beach person and that image is just beautiful! I am thankful that I have been given some wonderful friends that are like minded on some foundation beliefs yet live their faith is ways different from me…it adds such texture and color to life, don’t you think?

Molly - I think I am truly blessed with my friendship although that has not always been the case. In the past I have found friend oppressive and people with whom I have had to be very guarded with. This, I am so happy to say, is no longer the case. Huge changes in my life have allowed me to make friends that truly are FRIENDS in every sense of the word.

Jessica@SweatIsMySanity - I have such a hard time with friends who are unsupportive when I’m all about encouraging and uplifting them in all they do. I have let go of several friendships because of it.

I hope you don’t mind me posting the book photo. I know it may not seem like a fabulous shot, but it’s a beautiful story. Come by and enter my GIVEAWAY for a chance to win a copy of her book. xo, Jess
