31 Days {31} :: Breathing Again

I think I might be able to breathe again. Nurturing ourselves is no less important than nurturing her self esteem. They learn what they live, they really do. So when they watch a strong mama fighting a good fight, they learn to battle that way, too. And if they see her fold to negative thought […]

T H R I V E , Day {7} :: Self-Assessment - October 9, 2013 - 12:57 pm

31 Days {30} :: Almost

Sometimes, I feel so small. * I have one more small bit of encouragement. It’s what I pull out when I don’t know what else to do. When I’m tired of worrying. When my worry has made me sick and kept me from sleep. Remember this. You can’t control how others act or feel. You […]

Beautiful photo. The words are beautiful, too. At times it’s so hard for me to acknowledge I’m not in control of anything or anyone except me.

Suzanne - November 1, 2012 - 2:00 am

Absolutely and amen.
It’s how we respond that matters.
The rest is truly out of our hands.
I think a lot of people on the East
Coast learned that, this week….

xo Suzanne

Stephanie - November 1, 2012 - 8:41 pm

Wow! You wrote this on the exact same day someone you do not even know uttered the same words to me. Must be something I am really supposed to be listening to and taking to heart, a lesson I am supposed to be learning being reinforced. Thanks, as usual.

Jessica@SweatIsMySanity - November 7, 2012 - 8:58 pm

That photo is so beautiful. I look forward to catching up soon. Hugs. Jess

31 Days {29} :: DIY

*My sister’s name is Sandy. Yesterday, I got a text from her that said, Hurricane Sandy is in.the.HOUSE! She and my parents live in upstate NY and they are feeling Sandy right now. They are nestled safely in the northern Appalachian Mountains, hunkered down with heat from a woodstove, electricity on demand from a generator, and […]

Great read! I’m home schooling the kids 2 days per week and have worked hard at making them “figure it out” on their own. Love the point about empowerment…so true! I’m glad to hear family is well! thinkin of all them today..

Tamar Strauss-Benjamin - October 30, 2012 - 5:27 pm

What beautiful pictures! Hope your family came through okay. I grew up where the storm hit directly, so scary and sad!

Kim - October 31, 2012 - 3:56 am

Once again, you inspired a blog post…thanks!

Southern Gal - October 31, 2012 - 11:33 am

How did everyone make out in the storm?

Jessica@SweatIsMySanity - November 7, 2012 - 9:05 pm

I hope they are all OK. I hadn’t seen this post until now. Yes, self reliance is so important. We must work hard and do our best to take care of ourselves so then we can reach out and help others when they are in a bind. I’m afraid this new generation is lacking this lesson.

31 Days {28} :: Service to Others, Part 2

I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. ~Gandhi  * I’m not so sure that altruism really […]

A relative of mine is generous, but when he feels he’s been taken advantage of it takes him a long time to get to the point of giving with a cheerful heart once more. I need to share this with him.

31 Days {27} :: Service to Others

By the time we arrived a few days late to Kiawah, the families we were staying with had already filled the refrigerator and stocked the coffee bar. And we love our weekend breakfasts around here, so I decided to get up early and make breakfast for everyone. I am always so excited to jump up […]
