losing

I hope they learned that winning isn’t everything… I hope they learned this: That some people will always believe in you… That in the face of hardship, you pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and keep moving forward… again… and again… and again… That you can’t dwell on what others say, but maintain diligence, learning,...

Ice cream is always perfect! I love these shots! And, the lessons we hope ours will learn. Hope y’all are doing well! We will be up in your neck of the woods in December!
Hugs!

My daughter just played in her last soccer game ever. Makes me sad. Great post :)

deb @ talk at the table - November 16, 2010 - 8:16 pm

well… I can imagine you know how I so so relate to this :)

simply marvelous. and true. and captured in that special patty spendour.

Wendy @ Almota Roses - November 16, 2010 - 9:06 pm

Patti,
I love your sports photos. I bet you get to take a lot with your children being so athletic. It is so true that we need to learn about losing. Seems like education focuses on equality so much that losing is foreign.

Have a wonderful day!

Rachelle - November 16, 2010 - 11:59 pm

LOSING certainly is a life lesson… I love how you’ve captured this in your post. Pictures are stunning, by the way. The action and expressions is perfectly captured.

emily freeman - November 17, 2010 - 12:03 am

that last one is my favorite – captured perfectly.

in the hush of the moon - November 17, 2010 - 3:49 am

i am tucking this into my heart tonight, dear patty. so well, well spoken. and incredible photos. love the one with the fountain!

Kellee - November 17, 2010 - 8:03 am

Well, it is for this very reason that I wish I had spent less time working and more time focused on these kinds of things as a kid. I think I missed out.

cathy - November 17, 2010 - 12:02 pm

what uplifting words, patty. love the photo of the parents all bundled up and cheering on the kids. (and of the one boy protecting himself during the penalty shot…those “protective stances” always make me grin).

Cate - November 17, 2010 - 8:17 pm

Having watched my kids participate in sport for sooo many years, this really spoke to me.

Dana @ Bungalow'56 - November 18, 2010 - 4:47 am

My eldest daughter is 15 and has been the keeper for four years for her team. We love soccer. As your post so eloquently shared there are many lessons to be learned. And very few of them involve winning.

So if I had to pick a favorite shot (which is nearly impossible here, always!) I would pick the ‘good morning trees’ because oh-my-heavenly-days it looks like glory is just on the other side of those silhouettes. Now I’m taking my camera with me when I walk the girls to school this morning!

Kelly Sauer - November 9, 2010 - 12:20 pm

I’m so not picking a favorite. I just shared the whole post. Holy mackerel, Patty – this post just woke me up. I’m so jealous of all that gorgeous in your lens…

{rain falls angry on a tin roof}

I picture us standing there together alone in the middle of a field, sparkling in dew that never wets our toes, and surrounded by an army of imaginary flowers that scent the air wild with sweetness. Our arms circle round, hand clasped wrists- right over left, left over right. As I pull one way, he...

morning

It’s always happens like this, the realization. In the chaos of morning, I make the turn and the sun blinds me. There’s chatter and talk and maybe some bickering, and I reach for the visor to sheild me eyes. I think, It’s beautiful. The golden washes through me and I remember that this is what...

I just finished cutting up 3 melons 2 pounds of strawberries and a pineapple. I baked banana bread with chocolate chips and a batch of chocolate chip shortcake cookies. {Apparently, I’m a stress baker. And stress fruit chopper.} And this, after 11pm. Nice blog to wake up to, on a slow rainy morning. Thankful for the many gifts I have, one big one being my 20 year old son, who doesn’t need me for transportation or meals or laundry anymore. But oh the blessing when he decides to spend the day with us and go to lunch (he LETS us pay :) , little things turn to big things. Hope you get to be still for a bit today.

Susan - September 8, 2010 - 1:18 pm

Wow…these were gorgeous!!!!!!!!!! So glad you took that time to be still.

Kelly Langner Sauer - September 8, 2010 - 2:25 pm
