How would you empower a young girl to be resiliant against such negativity? I think the answer to this developing a strong self confident streak and bringing them up in a ‘can do’ environment rather than the opposite. Personally I think this applies to boys in this day an age more so than girls. I think the messages to girls at school is very much ‘can do’ whereas I feel that boys have rather been forgotten about.

I think the best way to empower a young girl against negativity is to flood every aspect of her life with love and positivity. Let her know that no matter what people say about her that she is beautiful and precious and loved. And that what God thinks of her is really the only opinion that matters. That and when someone says something that’s not so nice it isn’t necessarily true about her but rather it shows how not nice the person saying it is.

When I raised my daughter I told her to treat others as she would like to be treated. Basically, kill them with kindness. It worked. She is now a fabulous mother herself and treats all around her with kindness. Meanness will only come back to haunt a person.

There’s always a balance in teaching our daughters to turn the other cheek and also teaching them to take up for themselves……My daughter is only 5 and I’ve got two sons ahead of her…boys are a little different than these girls.
I want her to love well…but I also want her to be strong take up for herself in a Godly manner but also know when to walk away….

This is a beautiful post….beautifully written, as well. My family lore has an ancestor who was a French Count involved in the fight for Independence. (However, my search on Ancestry.com didn’t put our French ancestor in the right century!)
