+ Do you remember being 13?
+ It was the year I met my best friend.
Who is still my best friend.
+ There’s something about sharing life~
secrets and confessions,
fashion trends,
bad hair days,
fears and hopes,
first cars,
boyfriend escapades,
growing up,
graduations and weddings,
broken hearts,
hopeful hearts,
babies and moves across the country,
learning life,
new jobs, new homes, new hopes,
raising children,
learning to let go together…

It’s one of life’s greatest gifts.

My daughter, Lexi, and her Janet-friend Emily.

This and That
A Rural Journal

From the movie, Stand By Me, Gordon: “Although I haven’t seen him in more than ten years I know I’ll miss him forever. I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. {} Does anybody?”

Southern Gal - Love this. I just reconnected two years ago with a 13 friend. I hadn’t seen her since she moved away when we were in high school. So over 30 years later my daddy gets a letter in the mail asking if he has a daughter named Renee. It was so fun to meet up and catch up with her. You’re right. That kind of friend is a friend forever no matter if you lose track for 30 years or more.

Molly - I do remember being 13 but I never had a friend like that… I was shy and didn’t fit in then… the only attention I attracted was from the bullies. I hope so very much that my children never suffer from the same fate.

Bobbie Jo - That’s a great stand by me quote. I do miss taking my teen friends for granted. I’ve tried to teach my girls not to do that but it’s wonderful it’s their season for that! Thanks for linking.

Becky - It’s weird, but most of my closest friends came as I got older when the girls were little. When I was young the girls i knew were kinda mean, and it didn’t help that I lived out in the boonies away from everyone. Then boys came in the picture and forget about it;). Love the silhouettes of them. Very sweet.
