i get funny looks

Sometimes I get funny looks.

But it’s okay; I’m used to it now.

Besides, I know they can’t see rightly.

They drive by in their expensive cars, stretching their necks to see what the crazy woman in gym clothes, who’s wading out in the hip-high, dew-draped grass could possibly see that’s worth photographing.

And this is all they see:

field

But me? This is what I see:

spiderwebs in field

They’ve hoisted their sails to signal me that they are here…

My fingernail-sized friends

spider and dew

Who’ve created this wonderland for me.

They give me flowers

And diamonds

leaf in dew {3}

And pearls.

spider web & dew {2}

{Lotsa pearls.}

spider web & dew

And more diamonds,

blade of grass & dew

Beautiful, sparkly diamonds.

leaf in dew {4}

And they are always ready for a good game of Cat’s Cradle.

cat's cradle

I find peace

As I traipse about taking pictures.

And I realize these treasures are small, but invaluable

Because of the great joy they bring me.

weed & dew

And as I climb back into my car

{in dew-heavy pants}

Another passes,

With a long, stretchy neck

And another funny look.

And I smile.

Because I know.

I am wealthy beyond measure.

Beautiful! I am beginning to understand photography love…having camera in hand makes us stop and see all the beauty others pass by! And once we stumble upon our first “ohhhhhhhh” beautiful thing…our eye becomes trained to find it everywhere!

Hannah Braboy - May 18, 2010 - 2:57 pm

I know what you mean about the strange looks. But ack! Look at those shots! Beautiful.

Cate - May 18, 2010 - 7:07 pm

Beautiful Patty – are you using a macro lens for these? The detail you are capturing is stunning.

Mrs. Dunbar - May 18, 2010 - 7:47 pm

Jade @ Tasting Grace - May 18, 2010 - 9:11 pm

How beautiful! When you got to the bit about diamonds, I suddenly got the Beatles stuck in my head! “Lucy in the skyyy with diamonds…” :) Not a bad song to enjoy the day!

joann - May 18, 2010 - 9:52 pm

Days of Grace - May 19, 2010 - 3:49 pm

Beautiful! My son was asked last week why his mother was spending so much time ’squatting in the weeds’ with her camera. Ah, what they miss when they don’t stop to look.

Kellee - May 19, 2010 - 9:38 pm

That is so beautiful, Patty. I know just what you mean. That is the beauty of photography, pushing your boundaries… forcing you to open your eyes and look as you otherwise would not. LOVE it! And these images are INCREDIBLE! What lens were you using for all of this???

(And yes, I’m here catching up again, you’ll probably get 10 from me today.)

Alysa - May 20, 2010 - 4:06 am

Sue-ann - May 20, 2010 - 4:07 am

Great photos! Love the detail and the dew on the webs is amazing!!
Your question about the eyes in my photos… well I do enhance them in photoshop. I will either use the dodge tool or Coffeeshop Actions have a great eye bright action, which is totally amazing.
