January, And Happy Faces

+ Walter

In 2009, and again in 2012, the people of Costa Rica were named the Happiest People on Earth, based on data gathered by the Gallup World Poll. Their ranking is a reflection of high life expectancy, high incidence of experienced well-being, and a moderate ecological footprint.
+ Steff

When I asked, Steff said, I think it’s because they focus on family and God first, and everything else, including work, second.

And as we were driven to the airport on our last day, our conversation with our shuttle driver {not pictured} lead to a story of how his {American}{sigh}fiance left him and took advantage of him. He said, It’s okay. I’m happy now. What she did robs her of her own spirit, so I pray for her every day. Every.Day.

+ Davis

Later, as we spoke of his mountain bike and his triathalon training, he said, I don’t need much to be happy. I have my bike, two surf boards and lots of waves!

+ Dixon

And as January storms in in all her new hopes and secured failures, we have the chance to start anew.
+ Our lead guide for the week, Daniel

{We have this chance every day, by the way.}
+ Photographer Matt

I think about how I want to live my life,
even as I celebrate the 47 years gone by.

+ Steff

{As we spoke about healthy eating, when I told her that I enjoyed the meals they prepared for us at the Jungle Camp most, she commented, There’s something about food made for you by people who care about you.}

I want to focus less on the stuff and more on the doing and the sharing.
Because at the end of the day, all we really have is our relationships and our memories.

+ Walter

We have our good will and compassion.

+ Natalie

And kindness.

+ Scub diving guides

This year, I resolve to:
spend less
give more
prepare more healthy meals for my family and for my friends
{because there is something about food prepared by people who care about you}
purge this house
give of myself to others
practice gratitude

+ Frasier and Jane, Owners, Costa Rica Rios

Thank you Frasier and Jane, for creating such an extraordinary adventure tour; for sharing your amazing stories with us; for gathering together highly skilled guides with wonderful personalities; for providing a time and space for random people with common likes to bump into each other and travel together for a bit.

It changed us.

My Gratitude List
{beginning again}
{and starting with that for which I am most grateful}
1. my family
2. their health
3. my health
