season of gratitude

sparkly blue+
A new year stretched out in front of us,
full of hope and possibility…
fresh and clean and shiny new.
Around each corner, a new season
ripe with new chances to begin again.
And isn’t this the great thing?
That with every breath we can start anew?
That we don’t have to wait for another New Year,
but that we can begin again
and again
and again
when the path we’re on isn’t just where we want to be.

Before we step into this new year,
we should look over shoulder just once more,
to face what is Past one last time…
to review,
to see honestly
and with hindsight,
to be introspective,
to measure and assess…
to see all that was right,
all that was perfect
and give thanks.
And to see, also,
that which wasn’t…
That which was hard
and not so right,
and give thanks for that, too…
Because it is through these trials of life
that we learn and we grow,
that the make-up washes off
and the truth is clear,
that we learn of the strength within,
of what we are made…
and the validity of our faith.

Wishing you a new year full of joy, hope and possibility.
