Baseball and Summertime

{Are you tired of baseball yet? I think this will be the last one. But no promises, ‘kay?} * There are few things in life better than baseball in the summer time… Players testing their grit… Teammates {and families} bonding… Summer sun, red dirt, {blood, sweat and tears}. And me? I get to witness it...

ok. you know you’re a gifted photographer when your photos evoke emotion in others. that photo of dad and son talking through the fence (!!), and the one of the boy laughing in the dugout (!!). And the action shots? Amazing — you captured the excitement of baseball.

Jessica Washburn - August 9, 2011 - 1:55 pm

You do have a great family. xoxo, Jess

Life with Kaishon - August 9, 2011 - 2:17 pm

These are such perfect shots of a summertime game. Absolutely dead on! LOVE them. It’s hard to believe it is dwindling down. : ( Summer, I mean. Wishing you a happy week!

Secret Mom Thoughts - August 9, 2011 - 2:17 pm

Great shots. I especially love the slide.

Suzanne - August 9, 2011 - 3:00 pm

THESE make my heart
sing, as it was our
life from April until
the end of July….
Living in MN, practices
start in the gym and
the first outdoor games
are COLD : ) My son
decided this year that
baseball is his passion
and I couldn’t be more
pleased. After sitting
on the sidelines for
soccer, football and in
the bleachers in hockey
arenas, THIS is the sport
I love watching the best…
and it was HIS decision.
Thanks for all the great
memories. Your pictures
are so all-American and
really beautiful, Patty.
xx Suzanne

Lizzi S. - August 10, 2011 - 6:01 pm

Me too Patty!

There is something timelessly romantic about baseball, in a non-lovey-dovey way. Something about the bonding, the organization, the traditions of it.

Ruth - August 10, 2011 - 7:34 pm

The picture where you captured your husband encouraging your son is so sweet. It is one to treasure. Love all these wonderful photos. You are amazing!!

Truly amazing.

An Affair with Baseball

It’s hard to explain, really, if you don’t already have a love of sport, this affair we have with baseball. It’s more than just the game. It’s everything else, everything that comes before, and everything that comes after, and everything in between. It is preparation and commitment, practice and training, sacrifice. It is no excuses,...

Yes, it’s definitely baseball.

kendal - August 2, 2011 - 2:22 pm

i didn’t love baseball until myolder was 10 years old and could field the ball at 2nd base and make an accurate throw to 1st. then, it was on! and now i know what it means to guard the plate and why someone is out if he fouls a third-strike bunt. hte years are winding down for my own and i want to hold.on.to.the.season.

Susan - August 2, 2011 - 2:57 pm

I’m sure this is something every parent goes through. Wanting their kids to dream, and to chase those dreams, and trying to cushion them from potential realities.

Your honesty is always so beautiful.
