Photo a la {M}ode {10} :: Faces and A Plan

ISO 200, f/4.0, 1/10, 38mm I wrote two posts previous to this. I always seem to hit a roadblock in writing the day after a post that’s particularly meaningful to me. ISO 200, f/4, 1/60, 60mm This is my sweet son and his prom date. I think he looks like my dad, but most people...

I think you should do it whenever the “mood” hits you, whatever day that may be. But that’s just me. For me, having a schedule is too much like a job. And by the way, you have a very handsome son (who had a very pretty date for the prom I might add).

Amy Avery - April 20, 2011 - 7:42 pm

I agree with Kim about the schedule and your son. Whatever is good for you is good for me. I’m gonna always be here, ’cause I like you and all and you’re my friend! LOL! I can see why you think your son looks like your dad because I actually think he looks like you. And if you look anything like your dad, then your son does too. People look different in person though when you see their personalities come to life. I am sure he looks like your husband too and it may very well be his manerisms that really make people think he resembles his dad. I have a younger sister who looks nothing like me in colorings; she has brown hair and eyes, mine are blue and I have blond hair, but everyone says we look just alike. I never got it until I saw a video of myself and I said, “Oh my goodness, I look just like Kelly!” It was the facial expressions and the way we carry ourselves that look so aliike. It’s a nice thing to look like both of your parents whether it be in colorings or manerisms. Your shots of your son and his Prom date are awesome!

Laura Hegfield - April 20, 2011 - 11:06 pm

So handsome!

Tifani - April 21, 2011 - 1:17 am

He seems so much older than my son who is about to turn 16. Do we always see our children as babies? My own is leaving home to study at a university this summer and then off to boarding school just a week later. These last two months are the last I’ll have with him as a real household member. I know it is time to let him fly, but suddenly I’m feeling the need to grab his feet and keep him close.

Cathy - April 21, 2011 - 12:14 pm

oh thank you for going back and revisiting instructions! i feel so sad when i see my rebel stuffed in her bag in the corner! …you can see the warmth and wonderfulness in your son’s eyes. have fun these last few years before he flies away…laugh a lot and let all the little stuff go. the BIG stuff is all that matters. time is fleeting. xoxo

Southern Gal - April 22, 2011 - 11:24 am

First, I have to say he’s a handsome young man. I have one that will be 20 in September and I’m still scratching my head wondering how that happened.

Next, I’m so thrilled you’ll be recapping the photo series and going a little more in depth. I need it! Could I suggest you post the instructional post on one day and the linky on another? Or leave the linky open for a few days so we can practice what we’ve learned? I don’t always have time the day of to go out and get the shot to link up. Does that make sense? Thanks for doing this!

Thauna - April 22, 2011 - 2:33 pm

My ‘baby’ turns 18 today….I don’t know where the time went. I miss little boy that played with legos and snuggled and watched cartoons with me. When everytime I pointed a camera in his direction he gave me a Power Ranger pose. :) Now he is out to make he way in the world. Definitely bittersweet.

edie - July 24, 2010 - 8:27 am

Now it’s my turn to be up—on the other side of the middle of the night!
This blogging thing gets under your skin and sometimes typing is better than sleeping.
And five {or six?} blogs is infinitely better than one. Especially when they belong to my one of my favorite people :)

laura - July 24, 2010 - 3:57 pm

Patty,
You have been ONE busy lady! Thanks for stopping to see me at the Wellspring. I am finding some very gifted and special ladies through Emily. I’m so glad. Oh, and, BTW…I understand the whole blogaholic thing…so very much.

Susan - July 24, 2010 - 7:35 pm

Ok. The picture on the back of the motorcycle has to be my favorite!! You are a hoot!!! Love these qualities of Sibyl/Syble/Sibil/Sybil– it just doesn’t look right!! I am too goofy today…the heat got to me this morning! Hugs!!

I really like the perception on the motorcycle photo!

diptych {dreams} i think i failed you

Southern Gal - July 22, 2010 - 1:56 pm

Oh, I’ve experienced this. Wanting to protect and prepare for disappointment that life is at times, yet set them free. It’s a balancing act that is oh so hard to keep level.

in the hush of the moon - July 22, 2010 - 3:07 pm

oh, this is so honest. so real. so broken… it’s perfect. i love it. and i weep with you… you bless me today.

thank you so much for linking up today, friend. xo

joann - July 22, 2010 - 3:36 pm

beautiful. It makes me sad, and honestly I love my boys but if they become teenagers, my world will explode.

Kellee - July 22, 2010 - 3:54 pm

Beautiful, Patty.

I’m sure this is something every parent goes through. Wanting their kids to dream, and to chase those dreams, and trying to cushion them from potential realities.

Your honesty is always so beautiful.

Claudia - July 22, 2010 - 4:05 pm

This is amazing writing – and yes – I would need a pair of scissors too..!
Nice to meet you!
Claudia

Alexis @ Finding Prose - July 22, 2010 - 5:15 pm

deb @ talk at the table - July 22, 2010 - 6:28 pm

Kim Andersen - July 22, 2010 - 6:53 pm

Yes to this ….. it’s a fine line we walk …. those must be some pretty magical scissors that will really do the job though :)

S. Etole - July 23, 2010 - 1:01 am

Your visit was welcome and appreciated … thank you for bringing me here. I understand well the tension you are writing about.

Julie @ SweetPeanuts - July 23, 2010 - 4:07 am

Wow. I just handed my laptop to my husband and said, “You have to read this.” Beautiful, honest, tragic, redemptive. Thank you for sharing. I love learning from other moms.

Susan - July 23, 2010 - 1:03 pm

Hey! Love this! And I don’t have a clue about the Chinese stuff! I get several of those each week! And I simply delete! Hope you find those scissors! I need to search for mine as well!!
Hugs!
Susan

Joanny - July 23, 2010 - 8:12 pm

Beautiful story,

Love the dreaming soft over voice you use to describe your feelings, for it is our dreaming that brings color to the world we live in.

I found your blog in reading through the Imperfect Prose participants. How I love what you wrote here. And, as a parent, I relate only too well. Can I use those scissors after you?

The school year is over, another season is past, and I’m left with regrets for not being there more, for not being his cheerleader when he was the hero, for not telling him how proud of him I was even when he wasn’t. I wash out his uniform for the last time and I am...

Kellee - May 25, 2010 - 3:32 pm

Oh this is really love, Patty! Just lovely. What a strong, determined, and capable young man you have there. It is amazing what sports can do for a person.

Mary - May 25, 2010 - 6:41 pm

That was a beautiful post and a great tribute to your son as well as the coaches. They have a big hand in helping us raise our boys. We have been very fortunate to have such good coaches with our sons. Sports help teach our boys (and girls!) some really good life lessons!

Kim - May 25, 2010 - 11:19 pm

Cate - May 26, 2010 - 3:59 am

Kelly - May 27, 2010 - 6:44 pm
