The Gallery :: Barcelona, part 1

+

I sit here, culling through hundreds of photographs, trying to decide where to start.

+

Travel like this seems to always leave me speechless.
So much seen,
so much learned,
so much felt.
So much to share.

I travelled with my son to Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, on a trip with his high school Spanish class about 3 weeks ago. I had catching up with my family to do, preparing my older son for his college orientations {really, preparing myself for his departure-I’m convinced the college does this to ready US, the parents, for their eventual leaving}, and we have a lot going on here at my house {more on that another time}. And it’s taken me that long to wrap my brain around this experience, anyway.

+

Spain was nothing, if not colorful.

+

+

Every bit of it, a visual feast.

+

+

+

The food…

+

The architecture…

+

The culture…

+

The history…

+

With every step,
every turn,
every click.

+

It left me wanting to run back to the hotel to google search all that we saw. And I suppose that is the point of these school trips… to wet our appetite.

+

To show us that life is bigger than the square miles we live our lives in. So much bigger.

+

+

+

I took between 250-400 photos A DAY.
Yes, I did. 🙂

+

+

And I could have easily taken more.

+

+

There’s something about travel that feeds my soul. It creates an awakening, a craving. The newness of it all is so energizing.

+

I only wish I had the rest of my family with us there to share it all.

+

+

We stayed up for 36 hours straight the first day, I think to help us adjust to the time difference more quickly. And we walked for hours… So while I was thrilled, I was also exhausted.

+

So were they.
But I think there’s something about that kind of fatigue that lets you know you lived life well.

I hope they get that.
{I hope I remember that.}

    but my mom went with
    my brother on HIS high
    school trip and they were
    both smitten and have both
    returned several times. So,
I guess it is my time, one
    of these years.
